Former President Donald Trump has announced a new deadline for ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns TikTok, to sell its U.S. assets. The new deadline is June 19. This comes after two earlier

extensions

. Trump said he hopes to see a deal done and shared that he likes TikTok, especially because it helped him reach young voters in the 2024

election

.

Trump noted that a new American-based company may be created to run TikTok in the U.S., with most shares owned by American investors. However, the deal is delayed because China has not

approved

it.

Tensions

have grown since Trump added high taxes (up to 145%) on Chinese goods.

Some

Democratic
senators

say Trump does not have the legal right to extend the deadline, and the current deal might not meet legal requirements. Still, U.S.

investors

are working to complete the plan.

Trump said China wants a deal because its economy is

suffering from

the high U.S. taxes. But he added that he won’t remove the taxes just to

make a deal

. He may lower them in the future if both sides agree on a bigger deal.
